Cracker Barrel is a Strange Place
Dark-ish interior, muted colors, antique decor. And that's ok.
Cracker Barrel is a strange place. I like to watch people and this comfort food chain has a gathering of the most peculiar folks. Almost like a busy truck stop diner, there's somebody here from everywhere. And being located near the interstate adds to the strange mix.
Being in a Cracker Barrel restaurant is kinda like being in a John Prine song. I get the Cracker Barrel vegetable plate, but I've never tried the meatloaf. Word is that John Prine loved meatloaf, and I don’t know if he ever set foot in a Cracker Barrel.
John Prine preferred diners, and so do I if I can get to one. Angie and I tend to eat supper later in the evening and Cracker Barrel is open until 10 PM on weekends, so that’s why we end up here, and I don’t know of any late night diners in the area. I like to watch people and Cracker Barrel is a fantastic place to see people. Every person in the restaurant has a story that you won’t have access to, you’re there to eat and move on out so they can clean your table and seat the next batch of odd characters. All of the stories have to be left behind, there’s not enough time for collecting stories. You just move on.
